Facebook Stories is the odd one out. Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels and Instagram Stories share 14.0% top / 35.0% bottom / 5.9% sides. Facebook Stories runs a much roomier zone — 13.7% top, 13.0% bottom, no side reserve — so a master built to clear Reels will always clear Facebook Stories, but not the other way around. The two Reels placements match on numbers and differ only in the UI chrome drawn over the creative, which is why they are still previewed separately.

Percentages are the source of truth and drive the overlays directly; pixel figures are derived from them against Meta's current recommended 1440×2560 canvas. Meta's own Ads Guide pages currently state a single unified 14/35/6 for all four 9:16 placements (safe zone overview, Facebook Stories) — that wording is available here as Meta unified, while House spec holds the signed-off per-placement figures this team works to.
